<description>Recent nightclub fires underscore the importance of education and inspection
Michael and Jeffrey Derderian asked to participate in
National amusement industry safety conference

Focusing on a theme of awareness and education, Jeffrey &amp; Michael Derderian, two of the three founders of the Station Education Fund, a 501-C-3 non-profit, have accepted an invitation to speak for the first time together at the 5th Annual Pennsylvania Amusement Ride Safety Seminar to be held at the Holiday Inn Harrisburg/Hershey located in Grantville, Pennsylvania on Wednesday February 24, 2010 at 11:00am.

Jeffrey and Michael are not being compensated in any way for their participation and are personally paying all of their own expenses related to being part of the conference.

Michael &amp; Jeffery, who operated the Station Nightclub, have pledged to do whatever they could to further educate and also prevent similar tragedies like the Station Nightclub fire in places of public assembly. The organizers asked the brothers to participate to provide first hand knowledge about their experiences to over 400 amusement ride operators, owners, and inspectors who are responsible for the safety and well being of thousands of people every year.

“Who better to talk about what can happen when a “Perfect Storm” of unintended events occurs—I think this can be very beneficial to our attendees who inspect a wide variety of amusement rides and attractions regulated under the Pennsylvania Amusement Ride Inspection Act” noted Phil Slaggert, who is coordinating the safety program. “Most people do not realize the potential dangers that can be present in a seasonal haunted attraction, fun house, dark ride, theater, or any place of public assembly.”

<description>Interested in a horrifying experience that will truly freak your mind this Halloween season? Prepare yourself as circus freaks rise from the grave and impose their malicious intent on those brave enough to wander into the “Clown Cemetery” - a 3D haunted attraction unlike any other in the Seattle area.

“Clown Cemetery” is a haunted house presented by Haunted Night – a dba of Glitz Marketing. Haunted Night, a newcomer to professional haunting, is producing the event in cooperation with Jump Planet – inflatable party center of the universe. For the past 12 years Haunted Night has thrown large Halloween parties, including last year’s highly successful “Beers and Fears” event at Red Hook Brewery in Woodinville. Year 13, a fitting number, finds Haunted Night taking their efforts to the next level in producing an actual haunted attraction. Don’t let the inexperience fool you though as they have recruited some of the finest names in the Seattle haunted house industry, including those involved with some of the original KUBE, KISS, and Variety Club haunted houses. Haunted Night is also known for their online directory of local haunted houses updated yearly at http://www.HauntedNight.com.

		<title>Halloween Basket Sponsors needed!</title>
		<link>http://www.hauntednight.com/joomla/index.php/News/Latest/Halloween-Basket-Sponsors-needed.html</link>
		<description>(Reprinted from Craiglist (http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/vol/1392314696.html).)

We are looking for sponsors to be matched with a family in our homeless shelter to provide them the simple things to make Halloween special, a pumpkin, and candy! We have tons of children that may not get the chance to carve their own pumpkin this year due to their situations, and we hope the community will help bring a normal Halloween to the children in our shelters.

You will be matched with a unit, find out the ages and how many in the family and in return you’ll need to commit to providing a pumpkin to carve, a carving kit and candy to hand out. Decorations and costume pieces are always a nice touch as well.

The drop of day is Monday Oct. 26th 10-noon at our 2820 E. Cherry Street offices.

Won’t you help remind the families of the fun in life, and remind them why they are fighting so hard to get that life back on track? We hope you will! Please email nhilton@ywcaworks.org (mailto:nhilton@ywcaworks.org) to sign up. </description>

Hi everybody -

September’s Rue Morgue magazine hit the newsstands last week and my haunt, FrightTown, got a big, fat ol’ 2 page spread in their “Travelogue of Terror” column. We’re international, baby! If you don’t have a subscription already (I put mine under “Trade Publications” on my taxes because, you know, the horror and all), grab a copy and check it out.
