Wearing fancy costumes is the usual practice whenever there’s an annual celebration such as the Yuletide season, hence costumes can be synonymous to the word “fun”. The most anticipated event for costume aficionados in most parts of the world is Halloween, which has been a well-renowned traditional happening for centuries. It was the Celts who initiated the belief that wearing costumes that resemble the dead on the eve of Halloween will drive away evil spirits who return and whose scheming presence bother those who are living. In the United States, costumes such as infant costumes, toddlers costumes, and children’s costumes are more in demand during Halloween and Christmas Day, while teens and adults buy or rent costumes in time for themed costume parties or the Mardi Gras. Costumes in the United Kingdom of conventional and out-of-the-box designs, either created by local couturiers or imported from Far Eastern countries for a much cheaper cost, are used not only for Halloween but likewise for Victorian-themed fancy dress parties (which originated from the early masquerade balls held in the 18thth century and favored among members of British Royalty then and now), retro parties (carrying themes related to eras heavy on Western pop culture such as the 1970’s, 1980’s), theatre productions, the charity event for endangered animals Great Gorilla Run, and the high-end affair for philanthropists called the Chelsea Arts Ball. Anime character costumes are always a hit in Japan and in other Asian countries because of costume parties called cosplay. Add a comment

Hello haunt and Halloween fans! West Coast Haunters Convention

The 2011 West Coast Haunters Convention is rapidly approaching! Can you believe a year has passed already?

Our second WCHC promises to be a great event. We have been able to secure some awesome workshops for you this year. We listened to your requests and did our best to bring in the workshop you asked for.

A full run down of the classes as of this mailing can be found on the web site. Speaking of things you can find there, you can also find lodging information, class schedules, and we are now adding speaker bios and very soon the floor plan for the tradeshow. The official hotel of the convention is the Keizer Renaissance; they are offering a great rate to us which includes free breakfast. We do have two other hotels on board this year; they too are listed on the web site. Add a comment

The world of Haunted Attractions is vast. We estimate there are well over 2,000 haunted attractions charging admission fees to their events. We additionally estimate there are over 300 amusement facilities, such as an amusement parks, zoos, and/or family fun centers, producing some sort of Halloween or haunted house event. Also, countless home or yard haunts across the US. Lastly, there are over 1,000 charity attractions produced by nonprofit groups that open for one day on Halloween or two weeks in October. Each of them have a story to tell, their own "scary history" if you will. Add a comment
