Bloody Mary Cruise

Interested in a little fun in the sun with fellow haunters? Mark your calendars for February 5-12, 2012 for "Vampire Vacation", the annual Bloody Mary Cruise through the Southern Caribbean. Anyone planning to attend should fill out the form and let Bobbie Weiner know ASAP so she can organize the deposit on cabins. All she needs is a $50.00 PP to hold the cabins. All money is refundable up to Nov 10th.

If you know anyone else who would like to go, please have them fill out a form also. This should be a fun trip going to some new places next February out of San Juan!

(Below is a letter Rex B. Hamilton shared with the haunt community via email following the Transworld Hauntshow that we also attended March 9th-13th. Rex is always great about sharing his adventures and thoughts following major industry events and such. Plus, he's always been more than willing to let us share his stories here on HauntedNight.com. And since we've been totally playing catchup since Transworld and haven't had a chance to write our own follow up story, we figured we'd just post his again and call it good. Everything he mentions is spot on with what we would've written anyway. It appears we attended the same events, although Saturday night while he was at the HAA Awards Banquet, we elected for a haunt tour instead over at The Darkness. Check out Facebook for all of our Hauntshow photos.)

Greetings, Fellow Haunters:

The 2011 edition of TransWorld’s Halloween and Attractions Show was in St. Louis the weekend before last. I was there from Wednesday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. This was my 15th consecutive visit to our show of shows.

Rex B. Hamilton at the 2011 Transworld Convention (Photo by Bud Stross)The biggest overall change to the convention this year was that vendors of costumes and party supplies were re-invited to take part. Those vendors had had their own separate TransWorld convention for the past two years after the Halloween and Attractions Show moved from Chicago to Las Vegas in 2008 and then to St. Louis in 2009.

For many years in Chicago, the combined TransWorld convention had been a really big item. During the 90s and 00s there were 3 or 4 times as many costume and party vendor booths as there were from the haunt industry. Here in 2011 the overall number of vendor booths appeared to be evenly split between the two camps.

Since 2009 many of the costume and party vendors have been lured away to the new Halloween and Party Expo in Houston, produced by a company other than TransWorld. Now that TransWorld has decided to focus all its energy into a single Halloween-themed convention, it will be interesting to see which vendors come back from the wilderness. Could a return to Chicago be far behind? Add a comment
